Kunta Kinte Celebrations, Inc.
In September 1987, the Kunta Kinte Celebration was born in Annapolis, Maryland. America's first national capital. The celebration marked a momentous historical occasion for all African Americans and particularly Marylanders.

Kunta Kinte's landing at the Annapolis dock on September 29, 1767 has become the focus of a series of events celebrating African American culture and heritage. For over ten years, Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival has provided an opportunity for people from all over the world to become educated about African American contributions, be entertained by talented performers, to marvel at exceptional work by skillful artists, to enjoy exquisite cuisine from various cultures and to renew or energize family ties. As we continure to celebrate Alex Haley and his book Roots and commemorate the arrival of Kunta Kinte into Annapolis, it is our hope that the festival will be a memorable experience for all who attend.

It is important to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors without whom this event would not be possible. The Board of Directors and Volunteers are very thankful for the tremendous media support and extremely appreciative of the financial support from the City of Annapolis, the Cultural Arts Foundation of Anne Arundel County, Inc. and the Maryland State Arts Council.

You are invited to enjoy this years activities and we strongly encourage you to become actively involved with the Kunta Kinte Celebrations, Inc. organization to help us make future events even better as we move into a new century.
